Practical

Coat: Michael by Michael Kors (old similar here) // Sweater: BCBG (old) // Hat: Gap (sold out, but similar from ASOS here) // Glasses: OASAP // Boots: Sorel Tivoli // Jeans: J. Brand 620 // Gloves: Old navy (old)

I am a lover of shoes and used to wear my ballet flats or heels as long as I could into winter. I would have my poor husband crank the heat up in the car to keep my feet warm. Now that I am a Mom and am running after a little one I find myself outdoors much more. That being said, it is time to say good bye to the ballet flats in winter. I purchased these Sorel Boots at the end of last season and wasn't sure I would wear them. After I saw Elle Macpherson rocking a similar style and looking amazingly chic I committed to wearing them and can not say enough about how much I am loving these practical boots! They are super warm and waterproof. I also scored them on sale, and bought the youth version so I was able to get them under $50.00. I am a size seven so easily fit into a youth 5.5-6.

The whole point of this blog is to show outfits that are stylish but practical for moms or suburban women on the go.  So, it may not be the most original or fashion forward look, but it is a way to stay warm and still feel a little put together?

What do you wear when the temps plummet? What are your favorite practical winter shoes?

Still Cold

Shirt: J. Crew (old) similar here. //Boots: Sorel // Jeans: J. Brand 620 (in revenge color) // Sweater: J. Crew // Sunglases: OASAP ( similar to Celine Audrey and under $30.00) Bag: YSL from E-bay

Can you guess by the title of this post that it is still freezing cold here in New England? I actually took my coat off for a super quick outfit picture taken by my son so you could get a glimpse of the cool leather sleeves on this sweater. This sweater was a Christmas gift (thanks Nicole!)  and I can not get enough of it. I love it when some one picks me out something I maybe wouldn't have chosen for myself and it works out so well. How did I miss seeing this sweater in the store? I feel like the leather takes this sweater up a notch and am so happy to have something to spice up my sweater and jeans mom uniform.

What do you wear up to mix it up? Do you like being surprised with gifts or do you prefer to know what you are getting?

Inspired by SJP - Super Cold Mom Chic

The weather has been really cold (single digits) in New England, and it has been hard to maintain any sense of chicness if you are going outside. However, I found this picture of Sarah Jessica Parker and thought that not only was her bundled look chic, but actually practical and warm.

If a bulky down coat isn't your thing, try packable down. It's super light weight and still toasty. The packable down coats also tend to be thinner and more form fitting. At a certain point, fashion must suffer, because in these temps, not dressing warmly is dangerous.

Is it cold where you are? What are your thoughts on bulky down coats? Love or wear as a must?

J. Crew Tartan Fanatic

Shirt: J. Crew //Jeans: Current/Elliott stiletto // Scarf:J. Crew // Boots: Madewell Billie in Suede // Bag: YSL pre-owned from E-bay // Belt: J. Crew (old) // Sunglasses: OASAP (similar to Celine Audrey - caution: difficult to return to this site)

I fell in love with this J. Crew shirt and scarf combo when I saw it in the holiday catalog. But I was patient and praying the items would go on sale.  As you can see from previous posts I first got the scarf on sale...and now finally the shirt! I am still learning how to style plaid on plaid more originally. If it has to be cold and snow, at least it is a good reason to break out the tartan!

What did I wear this to? A stunt motocross show called Nuclear Cowboyz with my son and nephew! We loved the show! I recommend ear protectors if you attend, it's super loud!

How do you style tartan? Have you tried plaid on plaid combinations?

White Tweed Dress: Pricey Vs. Possibly

White Tweed Dress: Pricey Vs. Possibly

White Tweed Dress: Pricey Vs. Possibly by superchicmom featuring a white three quarter sleeve dress

I loved this J. Crew White Snow Tweed dress when I saw it in the catalog. But I rarely get the chance to get so dressed up. There was just no justifying the cost of that one, even with their 30% off discount.  But the dress on the right is very close and at $48.99 with an extra 50%off final sale (code NEED) - it stole my heart and took the idea of a white tweed sparkle tweed dress from pricey to possible!

Have a great weekend!

Tartan Scarf Two Ways

Scarf: J. Crew // Ponte Leggings: Ann Taylor Loft // Sweater: Zara ( last year, other options below in shop the post) // Shirt: J. Crew Factory (sold out ) // Boots: Franco Sarto (last year - this year's below) // Sunglasses: Number One from E-bay (used to save money)

If you have read this blog before you know I am a fan of the scarf for a quick and easy way to add style to the most simplest of looks. I am trying to become more adept at mixing plaids like some of the best bloggers do. See this scarf on Damsel in Dior  (one of my favorite bloggers) which inspired me to buy it for myself and as a gift! Actually this outfit was kind of a recreation of Damsel's look made mom friendly (no stiletto heels or sheer sweater).

I think fashion blogs are one of the best places to be inspired. I think it is great when you can find a look online and try to recreate it with things you already own. I often see a blog look I love and think about how I can make it more practical for my everyday life of a suburban wife, mom, and health care worker.

Do you copy or re-create looks you see on blogs?

J. Crew Tartan Blouse

Shirt: J. Crew // Jacket: J. Crew//  Jeans: J. Brand 620 // Boots: Hunter tall gloss

Nothing like some cold January rain to make you question what to wear when you are running errands and then taking my little one to see Frozen (it was so good by the way). You can't tell in these pictures but it is really pouring!

If you are looking for a great pair of skinny jeans, I highly recommend these J Brand 620 Super Skinny jeans. At full retail they are pricey, but I can usually find them on sale or on e-bay as factory seconds or pre-owned for 50% off. They are on sale on a few sites below in shop the post.  What is so great about them for Moms or anyone on the go is that they are mid rise and don't cut in to your belly or give you muffin top. I swear they are almost as comfortable as wearing leggings. They are super skinnies which I like because I have little chicken legs!

What are your favorite jeans to jet about town in ?

Llama Sweater

I wasn't sure if a sweater with llamas and jewels would be "too young" for me? After all, J. Crew did make a girls version of this sweater. But, I decided I kind of love it! And if I had a little girl she would be rocking it too!
