Same Accessories, Two Nautical Looks

Same Accessories, Two Nautical Looks
I have been inspired by so many of my fave bloggers lately ( see here and here)  wearing some of these items that I wanted to see what I could do to use them in different ways using the same accessories, but different core pieces that I already have. I feel like both these looks easily transition from day to night (at least in a mom's world) due to the bold gold accessories and hint of bling on the sandals and top! A bright coral lipstick gives that pop of color. Recognize some of these items?....I believe in an edited closet, buying items that multi-task just like all you moms do! How do you mix up looks around accessories?

Pool Side

Pool Side
I love a simple strapless jersey dress for the summer. You can dress it up so easily with some leopard sandals and some gold jewelry. What I like about this look better than your typical cover up, is you can really wear it from the pool to the car and even for lunch without feeling exposed. The black doesn't even show if a little wets gets through from your suit is underneath. The tote has enough room for your and your kids needs and patent is way more water resistant than regular leather or canvas. The bag is a little pricey (on sale now at Toryburch.com) but so versatile, and can even function as a diaper bag if you throw a changing pad in. What do you wear poolside?

Spring Camo

Jacket: Gap (sold out but similar here) , / Jeans: Old Navy (old) / Heels: H & M / Tee: Vintage J. Crew / Bag: Kate Spade Maryanne (on sale now!) / Necklace: Christmas Present

I wasn't sure about buying and wearing a camo jacket until I Google searched images of "camo jacket style" and saw tons of stylish and even Parisian chic ways to wear it (like all black with cat eye sunnies).  I have seen it on some of my favorite bloggers like Blair, and also on the site Suburban Faux-Pas and fell in love with their way of styling it. Then the fact that Gap had only a few left with an extra 30% off helped me commit. I wasn't sure initially about my spring purchase of camo jeans and find I wear those constantly. Lesson learned here: If you buy something and find you have to wear it immediately - it is a keeper. If you buy something and find it hanging in your closets a few weeks later - return it - you are probably NOT going to wear it to make it worth the purchase. sometimes we fall in love with an item because it is amazing (or on sale) but find it is not practical or work with our existing wardrobe.  I always leave the tags on until I wear something so that if I later realize that it really doesn't fit in with my lifestyle, it can be returned! Do you find yourself doing this too?

Summer Fair Wear

Summer Fair Wear
If you are anything like me you might find yourself attending some summer fairs this year. You know...carnivals, strawberry festivals, block parties and the usual for berry picking, rides, bounce houses, and face painting. Heels just don't work at these events, but you can remain chic with a simple recipe- - stripes and some leopard! Most of us have these items in our closets already and they are all washable so when you sweat your a** off chasing the kids around ( or entering a bouncy on an 80 degree day)  everything can just get thrown in the wash. I am finding more and more that a hat is a necessity for me as I often focus on slathering my little one up more than myself. I was never a fan of the Panama hat in the past , but so many of the bloggers I adore, like Lacey from A Lacey Perspective have made me a convert. Bye Bye Fedora and Hello Panama (much more sun protection)! What are you wearing to Summer Fairs?

Stripes and Flowers

Shirt: J. Crew (spring) / Shorts with belt: LC by Lauren Conrad Kohl's  (last season), this year's here.  /  Bracelets: J Crew factory /Shoes: Coconuts (old) similar here . /  Sunglasses: Marc by Marc Jacobs

This is my first real summer day errand running outfit with child in tow, therefore flats required! I wear denim shorts a lot in the summer because they are so versatile. I liked these because they are a mom and age appropriate length. I always love when I see heels with denim shorts on fashion bloggers and supermodel moms, but somehow it just doesn't work in real life and looks like trying too hard. But if you have a mom friendly way to do it - let me know ... maybe a wedge? What do you like to wear with your denim cutoffs?

Holy Chic Two Ways

Holy Chic Two Ways
When one of my favorite blogs, The Pink Peonies posted this Holy Chic shirt in a set I fell in love. I love that it has a sense of humor! I am normally not a fan of graphic tees for anyone over the age of 30, but this one literally is chic. Plus, no mom can go wrong with a simple cotton tee you can wash and dry, don't need to iron. What are your thoughts on graphic tees?

Leopard Shoe Problem

Shoes from top left to Right: J. Crew Everly wedge ( sold out) , J. Crew Seville Wedge (old), Coconuts flats (old) but similar here. J Crew Martina Wedge ( factory second from e-bay!) , Nine west Ballet flats ( Very Old!)

After reading one of my favorite blogger's post here, about her affection for handbags, it got me thinking what my affliction is, and it occurred to me ...leopard shoes. I have them for winter, fall, spring, summer, flat, and heels. I actually left one or two pairs out of this picture! A leopard shoe just pops even a white tee and jeans. I feel like I can just throw these on and I am suddenly appearing like I tried - at least a little. However- it goes to show you, sometimes it is good to really take account of what is in your closet before you buy, to help you budget more wisely and EDIT! For example, I really want these from Zara but they just aren't a NEED. So which ones am I getting rid of -none for now. They all have their place, purpose, and season. What is the item you keep buying and can't get enough of?
